Organd Donation free essay sample

Organ donation is the taking of healthy tissues and organ from a living or dead person to a living recipient in need of a transplantation. There are processes involved in organ donation from the moment someone decides to be an organ donor to the time the organ is transplanted into another person. A nurse’s role in this process is crucial in many ways and for many people (the medical team, the donor/donor’s family, the recipient). According to the U. S. department of health and human services, 117,376 people are waiting for an organ, 18 people will die each day waiting for an organ, and 1 organ donor can save up to 8 lives. The supply and demand for organs is disproportionate. There are many reasons behind this shortage and they include knowledge and attitudes of health professionals, processes for donor identification, timing of the request for organ donation, refusal of family members to consent to donation, and cultural considerations that influence the willingness to donate. We will write a custom essay sample on Organd Donation or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Also, organ donation is an option in less than 1 percent of deaths because brain death, the irreversible cessation of all brain function, must occur in order for a hospital to allow most organ transplants. When discussing donations, many people think of organs. However, tissue donation also has a major impact on the lives of many recipients. Some examples are: donated corneas can restore vision, veins and arteries can restore circulation and are used in coronary artery bypass graft surgery, defective valves are replaced with healthy heart valves, bone is used for knee and hip replacement; connective tissue is used to repair joints, and even the skin is used for patients with severe burns. Tissue donation provides recipients life enhancing benefits. Living donation is also an option. People who are healthy and without any complications can donate their organs and even choose whom they want to donate their organs to. The organs that can be procured from a living donor are a lobe of the lung, a segment of the liver, the kidney, a part of the pancreas, and even a portion of the intestine. The living donor has to consent to procedures and testing of the organ to make sure the organ is functioning before the surgery. The living donor should also be given all the information regarding the whole process of donation and all the procedures, along with the risk factors. The risks are similar to any surgery, including bleeding and other complications. If their remaining organ fails, they themselves will need an organ replacement. The living donor always has the option to change their mind anytime during the process. Virginia Henderson (1897-1996) is often referred to as the â€Å"first lady of nursing†. Her theory of activities of living gives a broad range of ideas for the theory to be applied in many areas of nursing practice, including the organ donation process. In this article, her model is applied to the role of nurses in the management of organ donors. The following is a description of the model and the role nurses play, especially after a person who is brain dead and suffered neurological injuries. 1. Normal breathing: A Nurse is aware that inadequate oxygen will damage organs, and therefore understands the importance of early airway and oxygenation to maintain organ viability. 2. Eating and drinking: Fluid and Electrolytes, blood transfusion, and medications may be necessary to maintain organ viability. 3. Elimination of body waste: Monitoring organ function (kidneys) through lab testing at regular intervals is essential for organ viability. . Desirable posture/sleep and rest: Frequent position changes to prevent skin breakdown and pulmonary complications are important for the viabilities of the lungs for transplantation. 5. Select suitable clothing: dress and undress: The patient needs to be treated with dignity and respect because their value as a human being is not lost. 6. Avoid dangers in the environment and avoid injuring o thers: Ensure safety of the donated organs as well as protecting the emotional environment of the patient’s family. 7. Maintain body temperature within normal range by adjusting clothing/modifying environment: Extremes of body temperature puts the body in a hypermetabolic state and increases oxygen consumption, therefore, nurses need to monitor the body temperature of the donor. 8. Grooming/protecting the integument: Keeping the patient neatly groomed helps the family feel better. 9. Communication with others: Allow the family members to express their fears, emotions, and needs. Nurses need to provide concise, honest answers and communication is critical in this delicate situation. 10. Worshipping according to one’s faith: Nurses should help facilitate worship or end-of-life rituals for the family at the bedside to express their grief. 11. Play and recreation: recreational activities leading to death are simple accidents and nurses to remind the family that sometimes things go wrong and no one is to blame. 12. Learn and discover: nurses should provide grief support and give guidance to the family and maybe other health care staff. On one end is the nurse caring for the organ donor and on the other end are the nurses working with the transplant team and caring for the organ recipient. In both ends, patients and families are going through a lot of emotions and the quality most people look for in a nurse is that of comfort. Beach, P. R. , Hallett, A. Models for Strategic Planning Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Models for Strategic Planning - Essay Example ss has given Apple a great deal of brand loyalty by important target markets as the company is able to develop meaningful and lasting interpersonal relationships with consumers (Goodson, 2011). The first strategic management model relevant to Apple, Inc. is Porter’s Five Forces model, a template by which an organization is able to understand the external market and the various threats that will impede or enhance future strategic success. This model recognizes five distinct threats, including threat of new competitive entrants, the level of bargaining power of consumers and suppliers, the degree of competitive rivalry in an industry, and threat of substitutes (see Appendix A). Apple utilizes this strategic management model to understand whether switching costs for consumers are high or low, which can lead to revenue declines when consumers select competing products (Porter, 2012). This model of strategic management allows the organizational leadership to examine whether new competitors in this industry will potentially seize market share and also serves as a template to observe the competitive marketing strategies being undertaken by main competitors. The Ansoff Matrix is a four-quadrant strategic management model that identifies opportunities for strategic market growth, including diversification, new market penetration, product development and market development (see Appendix A). This model is largely used to identify risks, allowing the business leaders to recognize where the organization is currently positioned and how it should expand to achieve the most effective revenue growth and competitive advantage. By understanding how to position the business for effective market growth, this model ensures proper allocation of financial and human capital resources in one quadrant area most likely to lead to profit gains. Both the Ansoff Matrix and Porter’s Strategic Management model recognize the importance of understanding the external market and competition to

E-Recruitment Overview Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

E-Recruitment Overview - Assignment Example It is seen that the Microsoft website is user friendly and has easy navigation. The website portrays the image that the company prefers to work with the jobseekers and only with the capabilities of their employees they have reached this position. Therefore they welcome competent people in their company. Though the Adidas website has a simple front page, yet it is very interactive. For those people who have fast connections, they can see a documentary in which a lady tells about all their expertise, lines of products, and consumer behaviours. For slower connections, there are certain pages that update the applicant about these facilities. Since it does not have an easy navigation, so the site cannot be considered user friendly. It has a moderate impact on the consumers; though people can have maximum knowledge from the website, yet it does not provide enough room to interact with the company. The KPMG website tells more about itself and its working, and hence gives a very rigid impact . It does not facilitate the candidates by showing the latest job openings on the front page and there is no link from where we can provide them with the feedback. This makes the site least friendly from the first page. Rolls Royce’s website has been the site that has given users the maximum chance of knowing the company in a glance. On the front page they have given the product lines, job hunt segregation and place to contact them. They have also used other small tabs through which the applicant can interact with the company. These elements make the navigation on the website much easy. It also shows that the company likes to facilitate the employees as much as possible. How the website/s attempt to set expectations related to... The assignment "E-Recruitment Overview" talks about the usage of the Internet in the placement of personnel and how new technologies change this sector. Due to efficient, fast and cost-effective nature of advertising, e-recruitment has taken an important role. Internationally the recruitment landscape has significantly changed in the recent past. Increasing skill shortages and low levels of unemployment in many domains have increased the competition in hiring the best person. Due to increased competition in the recruitment market, the organizations are tending to spend more efforts, time and resources in increasing the range of online and traditional advertising methods. The basic use of the internet and internet technology is transforming, and to some extent revolutionizing the ways in which human resource departments recruit job candidates. In the recent years, due to the internet, the recruitment process has undergone a dramatic transformation. In the current global economic recession, electronic recruitment helps to change the general perspective of the recruitment by offering highly needed cost-effective means of hiring. For the wide range of organizations throughout the world, e-recruitment has now become a significant part of the recruitment strategy. Not only this, it has progressively become a popular method for the job seekers in searching and applying for the jobs. This tool is more effective for the larger companies as the large firms are more known to the job seekers, thus the number of applicants is higher here.

Structural analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Structural analysis - Essay Example Assuming the average mass of adult to be 70 kilograms. Therefore, his weight shall be given by Weight= mass* acceleration due to gravity Weight= 70Kg*9.8N/Kg =686N The system is designed to carry three adults but the distance from each one is not specified .Therefore I treat their net weight to acting on the beam as a load equally distributed at 7.5 cm from end R1 indicated by force F1 which is technically equal to F2. Force F1 is given by; [? (the average weight of the three adults)] ? 2 (686?3) N ?2=1029 N Shear forces at the extreme ends of the beam are equal to the opposite reaction forces. The shear forces at any point on the beam is calculatable by using the formula F(x) = Rl –qx= qL/2 –qx= q [L/2 -x] whereby x is the distance from the left end of the beam, L the length of the entire beam and q the load on the beam F (0.075) =1029[1.8?2-0.075] = 848.925 The shearing force (SF) within any given party of the beam illustrates the tendency for the section of the beam on either side of the cross-section to slide or shear laterally in relation to other ends. The diagram shows the sitting beam in which the weights are distributed across it. The three adults will be assumed to be of load W1, W2, and W3 W1 W2 W3 The swing is supported on both ends by the other beams placed vertically to the sitting beam. The two ends in which the beam is supported is of reaction R1 and R2. Assuming the beam is split into two sections at point p. the resultant of the loads, reaction acting on the left of point p is F vertically upwards, and because the entire beam is uniform, the resultant force to the right of P should be F downwards. In this case, F is refers to the shearing force at the reaction P. usually the shearing force at any given part of the beam gives the algebraic sum of the lateral elements of the forces acting on each part of the beam. For bending moments, in the same approach it may that when the bending moments (BM) of the forces acting to the left pa rt of point P are clockwise then the bending moments of the forces on the right side should be in anticlockwise direction as indicated. Bending moment at given point is stated as the algebraic total of moments about a part of the entire forces acting in opposite directions. In a swing the bending moments are taken to be positive because when three adults sits on it, the total weights acts downwards and this is balance by the upward force from the two support chains on either side of the beam. The adults force gives the beam a clockwise push while the side chains give it an anticlockwise force. The results of this system are known as a sagging bending moment because it attempts to make the beam concave at the center. Fixing moments has to be determined in this system and work on the types of loads acting on it. It is also necessary to note that it is not possible to achieve a faultless fixing moment or the joining moment used will be associated to the angular movement of the supporti ng or reaction forces. Assuming that the adults sit adjacent to one another at point x of the beam We will let the shearing force at point X be F and at x = dx be F + dF. Equivalently, the bending moment is at M at x and M + dM at x + dx. Taking w as the mean estimate of loading of the beam length, the sum load is wdx,

Effects of Ocean Acidification and Global Warming

Effects of Ocean Acidification and Global Warming Introduction: Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the release of carbon dioxide (CO2) from our industrial and agricultural activities has resulted in increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration. Over a period of less than a decade, the change in seawater chemistry due to rising atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels becomes one of the most critical and pressing issues, identify as ocean acidification. The ability of the ocean to absorb additional atmospheric CO2 is decreasing, and more rapid global warming is led by future CO2 emissions. Ocean acidification is also problematic, the negative effects on marine calcifying organisms, resources and services cause by human societies largely depend energy, water, and fisheries. For example, it is predicted that by 2100 around 70% of all cold-water corals, especially those in the higher latitudes, will live in waters undersaturated in carbonate due to ocean acidification. Recent research indicates that ocean acidification might also result in increasing levels of jellyfish in some marine ecosystems. Aside from direct effects, marine and coastal pollution as global change-induced impacts with ocean acidification and the invasive alien species are likely to result in more fragile marine ecosystems. For example, coastal deforestation and wide-scale fisheries making species more vulnerable to other environmental impacts. The motivation for this research is that although global change and global warming have been topics of intensive research among these years. Potentially profound changes throughout marine ecosystems and in the environmental that research provide to humankind shows that impacts of ocean acidification may be just as dramatic as those of global warming and the combination of both are likely to led worst consequences. Natural environment: For tens of millions of years, acidity level of Earths oceans is relatively stable. The life in todays seas has arisen and flourished because of the steady environment. But research shows that this balance is not keeping anymore and being undone by a recent and rapid drop in surface pH called ocean acidification. It could have devastated global consequences. Human impact: At least one-quarter of the carbon dioxide (CO2) released by burning coal, oil and gas doesnt stay in the air, but instead dissolves into the ocean. Since the beginning of the industrial era, the ocean has absorbed some 525 billion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, presently around 22 million tons per day. For 2008, total human CO2 emissions were about 10 billion tons of carbon annually (equivalent to one million tons per hour or, on a per capita basis, ~ 0.2 kg person-1 h-1; note that 1 billion tons equals 1 Pg or 1 x 1015 g). Of this amount, 8.7  ± 0.5 billion tons originates from fossil fuel combustion and cement production and another 1.2  ± 0.7 billion tons from deforestation (Le QueÃÅ' reÃÅ'  et al., 2009). After the industrial era the amount of human CO2 emissions close to 560 billion tons. It is certainly enough to be of grave concern as a greenhouse gas leading to climate change, even it is less than half of this anthropogenic CO2 remains in the atmosphere. At first, scientists thought that what happened after industrial revolution might be a good thing because it avoids more carbon dioxide leaves in the air to warm the planet. But in the past decade, they have realized that it does leaf less CO2 in the atmosphere, but it has come as the cost of changing the ocean’s chemistry. When carbon dioxide dissolves in seawater, water (H2O) and CO2 mix, they combine to form carbonic acid (H2CO3). The water becomes more acidic and the ocean’s pH value gets lower. Compare to immense ocean, if there has enough carbon dioxide, it can have a major impact. In the past 200 years alone, ocean water has become 30 percent more acidic—faster than any known change in ocean chemistry in the last 50 million years. Scientists formerly did not worry about this process because they call a stabilizing effect â€Å"buffering, which keep the ocean’s pH stable by carrying enough dissolved chemicals through rivers from rocks to the ocean. But all the CO2 emission is dissolving into the ocean so quickly that this natural buffering has not been able to keep pH stable, and rapidly dropping pH in surface waters. The entire ocean is affected when surface layers mix into deep water. When the term ocean acidification was first coined, scientists have been tracking ocean pH for more than 30 years, even though it really only started in 2003. The current rapid rise in atmospheric CO2 is as much as 30 times faster than natural rates in the geological past, and present levels are higher than at anytime in at least the last 850,000 years and likely several million years (Kump et al., 2009). Consequences: Geologists saw a number of changes about in the time period of 300 million years that share many of the characteristics of today’s human-driven ocean acidification. But the main difference before and nowadays is, CO2 levels are rising at an unprecedented rate, causing endanger situation like the near-disappearance of coral reefs. Also theres a threat of acidification in human society, includes a decline in commercial fisheries and in the Arctic tourism industry and economy. Commercial fisheries are threatened because acidification harms calcifying organisms destroyed the Arctic food webs, such as pteropods and brittle stars. For example, In Scandinavia, acidic water reduced 15% of species populations and that more species were limited in population or declining. The rapid decrease or disappearance of marine life decrease the economic in coast area, it could also affect the diet of Indigenous peoples. Branching corals, lives around natural carbon dioxide seeps, as a model for a more acidic future ocean. The reason the can struggle in the acidic water is because of their more fragile structure. For reef-building corals, calcium carbonate forms complex reefs in order raft house by coral animals themselves. Pre-existing coral skeletons can be corroded by acidic seawater, and limit their reproduce. The growth of new ones slows down, so the reefs will be more easily eroding by storm waves or eaten by animals. It’s possible that weaker and healthy coral reefs will all be eroding more quickly than they can rebuild. Acidification may also effects the eggs and larvae of carols. While they were still in the plankton its not easy to get hurt by acidic water. However, as long as larvae is be in acidic water, it harder to find a good place to settle, preventing them from reaching adulthood. Some types of coral use bicarbonate to build their skeletons, so they have more ways to survive in an acidifying ocean. Some can handle a wider pH range instead of survive without a skeleton after the pH value back to normal. Area that affected by natural carbon dioxide seeps, like on reefs in Papua New Guinea, big boulder colonies have taken over. Probably because this dedicatedly branching has thin branches, its more attackable to dissolving. From this change, many thousands of organisms that live among the coral can be affected. Nevertheless those fish and people eat. Acidification is not the only reason for corals suffer, also warming water, pollution, and overfishing that caused by human also affect them. In general, shelled animals such as mussels, clams, urchins and starfish, are going to face the same problem like the corals. They have trouble building their shells by themselves in more acidic water. From the study we expected that, by the end of the century, Mussels and oysters will grow less shell by 25 percent and 10 percent individually. Urchins and starfish are not as well studied, but they have more weaker shelled that build by calcite, a type of calcium carbonate that dissolves more quicker that corals does. This study shows that the chance of being crushed or eaten of shelled animals will increase because of their weaker acidic affected shelled. Due to the burning of fossil fuels, people produce excess carbon dioxide that cause CO2 bubbles out of volcanic vents in the reef of the coast of Papua New Guinea. Also excess CO2 dissolves into the surrounding seawater, making water more acidic. There are places scattered throughout, lowering the pH in surrounding waters. Scientists study these unusual communities for clues to what an acidified ocean will look like. Plants and many make their energy to survive from combining sunlight and carbon dioxide, it shows that more carbon dioxide in the water is helpful for them, doesnt hurt them at all. As nurseries and home for many larger fish and thousand different organisms in the shallow-water area along coasts, seagrasses in more acidic water area were able to reproduce better, grow healthier. However, the pollution flowing into ocean and other reasons cause the seagrasses in decline, even the help of acidic seawater cant replace the lost of other pollution cause. Coralline algae, which build calcium carbonate skeletons more soluble than regular calcite form. It strengthened coral reefs. It makes space for other types of non-calcifying algae, so it can damage coral reefs about 92 percent less area in acidifying conditions. As we known coralline algae provide a ecosystem for coral before they leave the plankton stage, so it is a terrible situation for carol survive before start a new life on carol reefs. Theres an exception called the coccolithophores, one major group of algae, they also grew weak shells. But in nearly 100 years, this algae was able to adapt the acidic water by growing stronger shells. This evidence shows that they just needed more time to adapt, through the population is growing and changing, they will be more adopted to new environment. To have a overview of the how ocean acidification be like, researchers compared the ability of 79 species of bottom-dwelling invertebrates settled in different areas of the Italian coast. For most species, including worms, mollusks, and crustaceans, the closer more acidic water, the fewer number could survive. Sea grass and brown algae dominated algae and animals that need massive calcium-carbonate. The polychaete worm Syllis prolifers, as the only one species that was more abundant in lower pH water. In some areas, they are replacing corals entirely with large boulder corals, sand, rubble and algae beds. Although fish dont have shells, the effects of acidification can also reflect on them. In humans, for instance, a drop in blood pH of 0.2-0.3 can cause seizures, comas, and even death. A fish is also sensitive to pH as human. To keep the pH value balance, it will burn extra energy to excrete the excess acid out of its blood through its gills, kidneys and intestines. Through the process it can also slow fishes growth. Even slightly more acidic water may also affects fishes minds. In more acidic water, clownfish cannot identify threatening noise and flee from danger. There are unpredictable changes in animal behavior under acidification from the study. Because acidification, they cannot smell there way back. The changes of pH of a fishs body and brain could change how the brain processes information and send the message to react. The more acidic seawater could shift the fish species. It could have major impacts on the food web and on human fisheries. Altogether the ocean’s various habitats will no longer provide the diversity we depend on. Restoration: The most realistic way to lower the CO2 level and keep it from getting even higher, would be burning less fossil fuels and finding more area to restore carbon, such as seagrass beds, and marshes, known as blue carbon. If we did, even it wont change immediately, but after hundreds of years, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and ocean would back to normal and comfort for species to live again. Many organization already started to let more people noticed what is ocean acidification and how it is related to our life. United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) adopted the Limiting global warming in surface ocean pH of 0.16 from pre-industrial levels. This represents the limit of surface ocean pH. At the same time, organizations have fund raise in order to develop technologies that under the title of geoengineering. Developing engines that reduce carbon dioxide and stable the biosphere. Some idea is to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by growing more of the organisms that use it up: phytoplankton. Adding iron or other fertilizers to the ocean could cause man-made phytoplankton blooms, then absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and then, after death, sink down and trap it in the deep sea. However, its unknown the effect of this action, maybe seawater will become more acidic. Conclusion: Both ocean acidification and global warming are caused by anthropogenic CO2 emissions. Ocean acidification is not just happened yesterday, it will continue to get worst if we do not pay attention in our biosphere and tracking global CO2 emissions. The ocean acidification is not only impact on biology, but also affect human society and economy, especially with ocean warming, the biosphere various will decrease and the environment is not stable anymore. Generally, the pH of the ocean changes in a natural way, and some ocean organisms are well-adapted to live and reproduce in the changes. It may be hard for different marine species to adapt the more extreme changes, like ocean acidification, in resulting there will likely be extinctions. We dont know the exact number, but there were mass extinctions around 55 million years ago. It happened during the last great acidification event, including deep sea invertebrates were extinct. At the time ocean acidification is intensify, we should aware and learn from the past.

Batter my heart, three-person’d god - John Donne :: English Literature

Batter my heart, three-person’d god - John Donne 1. The paradox in the first quatrain is that god is supposed to be a good person but in this poem he isn’t. The speaker wants god to destroy him and remake him so he could have chance at salvation. The three person’d god represents the ways in which god will manifest his power in the task of giving the speaker salvation. The speaker is compare to an usurped town in may ways. The speaker is compared to a land were two political parties are having a conflict. In the parallel lines 2 and 4 knock and break represent god and how he uses direct force. Breath and blow represent the holy spirit and how it is some thing you can make. A spirit is not something you can feel. Burn and shine is Jesus and how he enlightened the people. The pun is how the heart represents the speakers believes. No matter what god does he cant change it. So he tells god to beat him into salvation. 2. The speaker compares himself to and usurped town where there is conflict. God is the minor political party or train of thought and the usurper is the devil who is the dominating party. Reason plays a big part because as in partisan faction, citizens have the choice to chose their beliefs. The speaker is saying his reason is leaning him towards the devil. This reason however is weak because god has absolute power and can change it at any time. 3. The speaker compares himself to an unfaithful wife who has been caught and is taking her punishment willingly. The speaker also compares god to the absolute power of the husband in that era. The enemy is compared to the devil who is the man that the wife is having

Loss Of Innocence Lord Of The Flies English Literature Essay

The book Godhead of the flies was published in 1954 by the Nobel-prize victor William Golding during the period of the cold war and the atomic age but the book situates during the World War II that has happened some twelvemonth before the publication aside from the fact that William Golding had participated during this war in the royal navy participating in the sinking of the German ship the Bismark and take parting in the invasion of Normandy doing more clear the manner he puts the characters and how they change into more barbarous existences aside for saying his thought of how the civilization the adult male creates fails demoing the influence of the context at that clip. The intent of this drawn-out essay from the novel â€Å" The Godhead of the flies † by William Golding is to demo to what indicate the loss of artlessness of the chief characters of this novel that alteration from good educated childs to savage people when they get in a virgin island making a batch of things that childs should non make, doing the loss of artlessness a progressive thing This subject was chosen because it is really of import how people even kids can alter into a wholly different sort of people particularly in one feature which is present in all childs and that is the innocence. In this novel the artlessness is one of the many features that alteration but in this instance it changes into a signifier of savageness that is non normal in kids that came from the metropolis but because of the fortunes it changes into that manner. Abou the subject â€Å" the loss of artlessness † I will speak about different points that will assist to understand it as how this kids were before lossing their artlessness, how they were when they loose it, the manner they lose it and the pros and cons of this Loos of artlessness This extend essay will be divided in two. In the first portion it will be seen the writer, historical context, the influences of Wiliam Golding and his manner of writting and in the 2nd portion a treatment of the loss of artlessness that is present in the novel. We could by and large acquire to recognize that the childs of the novel were force because of their surrounding to go barbarous people and loss their artlessness to remain alive in that deserted island by making a batch of things that a child would non usually do.Chapter IContextBiography of the writerThe writer William Holding was born in his grandma `s house in Cornwall were he spent many childhood vacation at that place. He left the bill of exchange of a novel, the dual tong, set in ancient Delphi, which was published subsequently.InfluencesWorld war II changed believing about adult male ‘s indispensable nature, one of this adult male was him. Before the war people believed that adult male was basically charitable and society was frequently evil. However, the atrociousnesss of the war made it really hard to many people to believe any longer in the purportedly good and guiltless nature of human existences as the prevailing portion of people. You can see the influence of this displacement in believing in Golding ‘s plants. Some of Golding ‘s favourite childhood writers were E dgar Rice Burroughs with Tarzan of the Apes, Robert Ballatyne with Coral island and Jules Verne with Twenty thousand conferences under the sea[ 1 ] Each of these books portrays adult male as a fundamentally, normal good animal who struggles to avoid the immoralities of society. Golding yearned to be similar to the characters in the narratives and fabrications he read â€Å" They held me rapt, † Golding one time said of the books he read. â€Å" I dived with the Nautilus, was shot round the Moon, and crossed Darkest Africa in a balloon, descended to the centre of the Earth, drifted in the South Atlantic, deceasing of thirst†¦ . It ever sent me indoors for a drink-the fresh Waterss of the Amazon † .[ 2 ]When he was twelve Golding decided to be a author. He planned a twelve-volume work on trade brotherhoods but he could ne'er finish the tremendous program. As said before with his love for books and reading and his early efforts at authorship, Golding of studied literature in college. The book was non considered a success at first, it was non until the sixtiess, when it captured the attending of college and high school pupils that critics began to admit Golding ‘s endowment. Even now there are differing sentiments about the novel. Some believe Golding ‘s authorship is declamatory and didactic, that he does non let you to hold any sentiment but his. Other critics see him as the greatest English author of our clip. You will happen that portion of the merriment of his book lies in make up one's minding for yourself what you think. Golding has continued to compose in malice of the contention over his work. It would look that the unfavorable judgment, instead than scaring him, merely challenges him to go on composing. In the same manner, Golding challenges readers to believe about what he considers most of import: the true nature of human existences. The three novels that followed Lord of the Flies — The Inheritors, Pincher Martin, and Free Fall â₠¬â€ brought him more success, while the contention over his endowment, or deficiency of it, continued. Finally Golding stopped learning to compose full clip. In 1983 Golding was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.[ 3 ] When World War II began in 1939, Golding joined the Royal Navy. He saw action against German war vessels, he was in antisubmarine and flak operations, and in 1944 he was involved in the D-Day naval support for the landings on the beaches of Normandy. He continued to read the classics even as he acquired a repute for loving tense combat. And his war experiences changed his position about world ‘s indispensable nature. Because of the atrociousnesss he witnessed, Golding came to believe that there was a really dark and evil side to adult male.[ 4 ]â€Å" The war, † he said â€Å" was unlike any other fought in Europe. It taught us non contending, political relations or the follies of patriotism, but about the given nature of adult male. †[ 5 ]After the war Golding returned to learning in a male child ‘ school, which may explicate why the characters in Lord of the Flies seem so existent. Ralph, Jack, Piggy, Simon, and the other male childs are based on the faces and voices of kids Golding knew. Thus his reading of the classics, his war experience, and his new penetration into humanity laid the basis for his authorship. His first three novel were really much alike the novels he read and he name them as rubbish imitations, these novel have ne'er been published. His 4th novel was Lord of the flies, and when it was eventually accepted for publication in 1954, it had been turned down by a batch of publishing house around 20 of them In his authorship manner it can be seen that it is go outing and fast- moving with a batch of facets that is shown in it, one of them is the length of the sentences depending in the state of affairs, he use long sentences if he wants to travel easy, this sentences are intentionally use to decelerate the readerA?s gait so that the reader feels relax and to make non anticipate some of the things that are coming next in the narrative. This is done to do a esthesis of surprise in the reader. On the other side he uses short sentences to do the narrative impacting as he uses them when something of import and shocking is go oning in the the narrative in other words a minute of tenseness. There is besides the usage of symbols, this symbols, the bulk of them are objects that are in the nature each of them intending something of import as justness or force. Aside from this he is an writer that writes with a great control over sensitiveness as he writes the deceases of animate beings or people in really descriptive and ghastly manner as he was a individual that saw the horrors of war, he besides like to make the mirror technique as he like to contrast the thing that are shown with opposite words as dark and visible radiation, isolation and friendly relationship. Finally he like the usage of imagination to heighten the state of affairs to do it more clear to the reader of what is traveling on. Chapter 2: There are many apparent subjects in the book the Godhead of the flies by William Golding. One of the most apparent subjects trough the novel would be the loss of artlessness. It is shown as the narrative progresses that the artlessness of the kids is vanishing as the instruction they received is merely a manner to keep the existent kernel of adult male that is evil. Because of the deficiency of civilisation an instruction in the island where the kids are trapped the become violent, cruel and crude demoing the existent kernel of adult male that the writer likes to utilize in his novels. The loss of artlessness is apparent in most characters of The Lord of The Flies. But first of all this means that this characters at a timet hey were guiltless, this can be seen in the first chapters of the of the book when it is said that this kids, Ralph and the others, were good boies and girls, that they studied in a private school, they liked to play that they were portion of the high society intending that they had money, as portion of the high society in England they were kids that were teach with good manners for illustration, to imbibe a cup of coffe in the afternoon. All of this meant that they were really educated kids that will ever make the right thing nicotinamide adenine dinucleotides that they would non ache anyone but, when the accident with the field occur that leads them to oppress within a virgin island this changed in a imperfect a ill-famed manner as the the clip passed by because this savageness was needed to last within the islands there were no easy things to acquire as in the civilisation were they merely had to inquire for the things to they parents as most kids an in contrast in the island thy were by themselves seeking to last so they had to run carnal to eat doing a immense contrast in the behaviour they had in the civilisation and the behaviour they had to hold in the island, as the kids that were portraded swimming in the laguna in Chapter 3 that when crushed in the island they merely wanted to be deliverance that turned The painted barbarians in Chapter 12 who have hunted, tortured, and killed animate beings and human existences and that now they do non desire to be rescued anymore. The autor, William Golding, as a adult male that hated war is seeking to demo with this that civilisation can non cancel the evil nature of the human being that it is shown in the worst minutes of the life of the adult male and that this civilisation can merely conceal and command this evil side that all adult male have. The procedure of innocnece debasement can be seen in the spar between Jack and Ralph appears to be invariably stirring. It occurs in the beggary of the novel with the election of Ralph as head all the manner to the hunting of hogs. It seems that all Jack wants to make is Hunt and kill even before they have any shelter to protect them from the elements. For illustration in chapter 3 it was said by Jack, â€Å" We want meat † ( pg 54 ) . Jack says this on more than one juncture. It is besides apparent that the male childs are going more and more barbarian. For illustration in chapter eight during the successful Hunt of a hog Jack says, â€Å" Pick up the hog. † , â€Å" This caput is for the animal † mentioning to the sows head ( pg 137 ) . The caput of the hog was impaled upon a lance through the land as an offering for the animal. Towards the terminal of the novel it has become axiomatic that the artlessness of the male child has been wholly lost. It at one point had gotten so bad that alternatively of runing for nutrient for the necessity of nutrient, human existences were killed. For illustration, in chapter 11 a immature male child named Roger, a sadist, rolled a bowlder down a hill during a feud and killed piglet. Another illustration of loss of artlessness can be provided in chapter 10 where Simon goes to state the male childs of the â€Å" existent † animal while the male childs are in a chant shriek, â€Å" Kill the animal! Cut his pharynx! Spill His Blood! . † Simon is stabbed with a lance and dies. Society is a cardinal component lacking in The Lord Of The Flies doing the new fickle behaviour among the male childs. The male childs in Godhead of the flies were unable to retain the much-needed artlessness to continue peace amongst the male childs. The ideal supervising and stableness of the â€Å" grown-up † universe that was missing caused the instability among the male childs and the prototype of the ruin of artlessness of world at its most crude province with a immense contrast of what the kids were earlier and what they are now, as when Ralph is foremost introduced, he is moving like a kid, sprinkling in the H2O, mocking Piggy, and express joying. He tells Piggy that he is certain that his male parent, a naval commanding officer, will deliver him, a strong belief that the reader understands as the desirous thought of a small male child. Ralph repeats his belief in their deliverance throughout the novel, switching his hope that his ain male parent will detect them to the far more realistic premiss that a passing ship will be attracted by the signal fire on the island. By the terminal of the novel, he has lost hope in the male childs ‘ deliverance wholly. The patterned advance of Ralph ‘s character from idealism to pessimistic pragmatism expresses the extent to which life on the island has eradicated his childhood. Besides you can see that there is a batch of symbolism that represents the loss of artlessness as in the island is coded in the early chapters as a sort of Eden, with idyllic scenery, fresh fruit, and glorious conditions. Yet, as in the Biblical Eden, the enticement toward corruptness is present: the younger male childs fear a â€Å" snake-thing. † The â€Å" snake-thing † is the earliest embodiment of the â€Å" animal † that, finally, will arouse paranoia and division among the group. It besides explicitly recalls the serpent from the Garden of Eden, the incarnation of Satan who causes Adam and Eve ‘s autumn from grace. The male childs ‘ increasing belief in the animal indicates their gradual loss of artlessness, a descent that culminates in calamity. We may besides observe that the landscape of the island itself shifts from an edenic infinite to a beastly one, as marked by Ralph ‘s observation of the ocean tide as an impenetrable wall, and by the storm that follows Simon ‘s slaying. Altought the deficiency of moral during thier actions is a bad thing, this has pros and cons the pros is that this help them to last in the island since there is no topographic point to be a educated and a formal adult male becouse if you are this manner there you will acquire killed an eat by a wild animate being or by other things so in a manner here applies the â€Å" endurance of the fittest † as a chief jurisprudence to last, the advantage of the deficiency of moral in that topographic point is that they will non experience guilty for the violent deaths of animate beings or people since you need to eat but on the same side the cons of this is that they will lose all societal accomplishments, and civilizad ways they have learn trought their lives, in instance they are rescued and convey back to the metropolis this will non allow them to hold a normal live at that place as they adapted all to the island. So in manner this deficiency of moral helps them but at the sametime it puts them on danger. Decision: In decision the loss of artlessness is an apparent subject trought the novel â€Å" the Godhead of the flies † of William Golding that is shown throught this characters in an progressive manner as the deficiency of moral that brings down the artlessness makes them make atrocious things as cannibalism and other things that are worst as the clip passes, but aside organize the fact that this brings their moral down, this have advantages that helps them to last in this helter-skelter state of affairs full of danger. With this the writer William Golding tries to demo that no affair who you are or what your instruction you have recieved because when people are in a hard minute of their lives, their evil side appears losing all the civiliziced manner of acting as this portion is ever present in all human people despite their social-economic category, this thought of the human society that the writer has is the consequence of his experiences of war as he presenced killing and other atrocious things throught this phase of his life altering his manner of seeing things into a pessimistic position of people as he likely did in war things that he is non proud of because this state of affairs makes people alter his manner of thought and do things that they would non usually do. This subject could convey new investgiation in the possible hereafter, in the same book, about â€Å" the savageness V civilisation † , this subject is related in a great manner about the loss of artlessness since it is about the struggle beteween the urges that exist in all human existences one of them the inherent aptitude to populate in a peacefull manner by following regulations and the other being to move in a violent and animalistic manner to last and to derive domination over other people.

Divorce Research Paper

Divorce Crystal Perez Divorce is a big scary word for many. To some, it is a word that represents failure and a reason for them to raise the white flag in defeat. Trials and tribulations seemed to take their toll and cause reason for a significant change in lifestyle, routines, and marital status. To others, divorce is a reason to escape from a difficult and harmful relationship. Divorce is the final straw and the symbol of courage to leave when they had had enough. For whatever the reason, divorce has become extremely prevalent not just in the United States, but across the Earth. It is also a large reason for debate. Many feel as though divorce is looked at as a â€Å"get out of jail free card† and that people use it when they have decided that they want to move on. Many also see divorce as a harmful tool to tear a family to pieces. Regardless of how divorce is perceived, the fact is that it creates a very powerful change in families. The exact cause of a divorce is interchang eable from case to case. The cause and effect dynamic may display a pattern as to why many marriages fail. Factors and warning signs that may contribute to a failed marriage include factors before the marriage, and during a marriage.Such factors before a marriage include; his or her parents divorcing, either partner is under the age of 21, family is opposed to the marriage, cohabitation before marriage, a previous divorce of either partner, or a large discrepancy in age, background, interests, and values. (Berger 2009) While one may say that catching these warning signs early could prevent a couple from immaturely embarking on the trip down the aisle, many signs are simply ignored by pre-marital bliss. The warning signs for divorce while in the marriage may be more detectable.Such signs include; divergent plans and practices regarding childbearing and child rearing, financial stress/unemployment, substance abuse, communication difficulties, lack of time together, emotional or physic al abuse, and relatives who do not support the relationship. (Berger 2009) It has been said â€Å"many distressed marriages are happier after divorce, while those in merely distant marriages are less happy than they though they would be. † (Berger 2009) Many go into a relationship ignoring the faults of others; completely blind to potential risk factors or warning signs of a failing relationship. Why would they?To constantly look for fault in others and to always search for the problem could lead to a potentially lonely life. The saying that no one is perfect, while completely true, can ring in the ears of a man or woman looking for love. This statement can cause one to experience the common â€Å"overlooking the flaws† syndrome, and therefore send such star-crossed lovers down the aisle; never stopping to take a breath and consider the impossible†¦what if they are not truly compatible? The good news is that more so now than ever, individuals are deciding to exami ne their partners and themselves a little bit more carefully before tying the knot. The United States was the first nation to see the divorce rate rise significantly years ago. However, the divorce rate has remained steady for the past 15 years. (Berger 2009) To more closely examine the reasoning behind the steady rate, you have to consider where society was fifteen years ago. Fifteen years ago it was 1997; the year where the average income was $37,006. 00. (PeopleHistory. com 2004) Whether you consider it low or high today, the fact is that that $37,000 dollars was now being shared more frequently between powerful men and women. These women were executives, lawyers, professors, and collegiate professionals. One may say that these women had an unwavering sense of feminism and the mentality of being a strong, career-driven individual. It is at the age where women are not defined by their husband’s careers, but by their own accomplishments. With women taking their place in the wo rkplace, it may be safe to say that many found that a career was her top priority. Being a businesswoman and climbing the corporate ladder may have been reason enough for women to shy away from marriage until later in life; or quite possibly altogether. Whatever the case, women were allowed to be choosier in who they married, causing a lull in the divorce rate.Maybe women were realizing that they did not need marriage to feel fulfilled. Or maybe for the lucky ones, they really could have it all; maintain corporate executive status†¦and find and keep love. Although the divorce rate in the United States has kept steady for the past 15 years, the rates are still considerably high. Current divorce rates state that almost one out of two marriages end in divorce. This number is without considering that half of all adults do not get divorced. In fact, a large number of people never marry or many marry multiple times. Berger 2009) This brings up a great point as to why divorce rates ar e so high. We all know the tragic stories of those who have married multiple times on their desperate hunt to find happiness and true love. It evokes the question; while women and men can be wildly successful, why are they always looking for the fairytale? Why do we insist that somewhere, out there, our knight in shining armor will canter down the beaten path into our front yard and ask to be ours? Why do men proclaim that they will only settle down for the right woman; who coincidentally mirrors the only perfect woman in their life†¦ their mom?We have been told since we were young that we should never settle. We prepare ourselves for our futures, demand our friends to tell us the truth about â€Å"what’s wrong with us†, and have our hearts broken a million times because in the end, we are destined to find the one†¦right As a little girl, I remember my mom telling me to never settle for just anyone. â€Å"You have a lot to give and a big heart. Make sure the one who gets it really deserves it. † I have spent my life carrying around a heart that is locked up tight until I find that one perfect person who holds the key to it.It sounds like a fairy tale doesn’t it? For someone preaching about the idea that many marriages end because women expect a fairy tale, I still hold that fantasy in my own heart. We are told to not let just anyone in, but how do we know if they are that right person. In our favorite fairy tales, there is always a sign. For Snow White, it was true love’s kiss. If it were the wrong prince and not her true love, his kiss would not have woken her up. In which case, Snow White would experience her own trial and error process without ever having to go through the heartache of a breakup. For Sleeping Beauty, her Prince Charming would have never walked into her life without an arranged marriage. Luckily for her, true love’s kiss also woke her from her slumber. Apparently her betrothed just happened to be the right man for her. Watching these fairy tales growing up reinforces the idea that everyone has a true love. Everyone, no matter how difficult the situation, will eventually find the person that they belong to. Unfortunately for us, there is no sleeping spell that can wake us up with true love’s kiss. We have to continue searching for the perfect man; kissing any frog that comes our direction. So the question is, do we believe the fairytales too much? Do many marriages end in divorce because the man we marry just doesn’t turn out to be Prince Charming? Many go into a relationship giving the benefit of the doubt and hoping that just this one time; he or she will be perfect. Could it be possible that many marriages end because of disappointment? Another theory as to why divorces do occur so frequently is the fact that we watch men and women in the media divorcing their spouse like it is a right of passage; like after the 3rd one, you get a discount on your next w edding. Take Elizabeth Taylor for example. The glamorously successful film star earned her star status by acting in films since the age of ten. She was considered to be one of the last great movie stars of her time. While she is known for her films, she is better known for her precocious love life. With all of her star success, one would think that she would be content; but like any other human being, she longed for love. When she didn’t find it the first time, she continued to search for and marry anyone who made her happy for the time being. Taylor married eight times. This leaves one to question whether her marriages were a matter of love, or acts which filled a void in her heart.A more recent star that has followed the same path is Jennifer Lopez. Wildly successful and envied by many, one may say that she has it all. Lopez has also been on the search for love. She has married and divorced three times. This draws a fine line between when it is morally right for a divorce to take place. One may say that a couple must divorce when one or both parties are unhappy. This being said, how unhappy is unhappy enough? Couples fight, argue over petty things, and question their compatibility, but when is it right to call it quits? Fighting for a marriage may be as important as preparing for one in the first place.Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez who get out of a relationship do not set the best example for those fighting for their relationship. The divorce factors that make divorces likely during a divorce; such as emotional and physical abuse, financial stress/unemployment, etc. are rarely present in celebrity divorces. If celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and Russell Brand can divorce for â€Å"irreconcilable differences,† why shouldn’t the general public? Divorce may be something that many tend to do on a whim when they have simply had enough, but in many to most cases, it is not just themselves that hey have to worry about. Most traditional families that experience a divorce have children who are involved as much as their parents. In certain cases, a divorce may be helpful for those in an abusive environment or those who experience more arguments than dinner conversations. Divorces from harmful relationships can teach children that when you are hurting, sometimes you need to get out. However, divorces that are granted because of â€Å"irreconcilable differences† may teach children that when the going gets tough, it’s best to just get going. Divorce can also hurt bonds between a specific parent if that parent and the child were close. The child could experience a feeling of loss and be subject to the grieving process, which will help them to move on through the loss. If both parents do not assist with this grieving process, problems within the process may be created. Many think that the grieving process is only experienced after a death. It in fact can and should be followe d after any situation that creates great trauma to one’s usual state. The process can be quite helpful in maintaining a stable state of being after a loss. There are times that the process may be complicated. For example, absent grief is a situation in which overly private people cut themselves off from the community and customs that allow and expect grief. (Berger 2009) Another situation of complicated grief is disenfranchised grief. This is â€Å"a situation in which certain people, although they are bereaved, are prevented from mourning publicly by cultural customs or social restrictions. † (Berger 2009) This would be a situation where a child is told not to cry about a situation or to â€Å"suck it up† and not be bothered by the current situation. These aspects of complicated grief may affect the child later on in his or her adult life.If both adults in the marriage decide that divorce is the best option for all members of the family, it is important for the child to be informed and to be allowed to grieve in his or her own way. Open communication can be very helpful in getting through a complicated time. With this open communication, the couple must understand that each child, at each age level, will respond differently. An example given by The University of New Hampshire: Cooperative Extension was that a child of preschool age may think that if he/she had done his/her chores or eaten dinner when they were told, their father or mother would not have gone away.Elementary-aged children may have the most difficult time accepting divorce. (UNH) The children are old enough to recognize that they are hurting, but have no idea how or if they can fix the pain. (UNH) Adolescents generally take a different approach to fixing the problem at hand. He/she may assume the responsibilities of a parent in order to take less stress off of a specific parent. They are old enough to understand that his/her parents are not only adults, but they are also act ual people dealing with a crisis. He/she may take stress on themselves because they feel responsible for fixing a problem that they have no control of.According to the University of New Hampshire, â€Å"studies have shown that boys raised by fathers and girls raised by mothers may do better than children raised by the parent of the opposite sex. † This is also a very important aspect to consider when divorcing, who lives with whom. The divorce is not just the dividing of the assets; it is also the dividing of the children. Schedules dictating which holidays are with a given parent, or who has them on the weekends can be stressful for not only the parents, but the children as well. This relates to the idea that â€Å"the children’s adjustment following a divorce has more to do with the quality of the parent-child relationship than with the gender and age of the child. † (UNH) If the child has working relationships with his/her parent on each of their visits, the c hild should not struggle to find a way to adjust. Regardless of the quantity of time between parent and child, the quality of the time should be enough for the child to feel as though he/she is not missing a source of comfort. The relationship between child and parent is quite possibly one of the most difficult aspects of divorce. As an individual, it is easy to put yourself first. For many, it’s what they have done for his or her entire life. In the beginning, you have an entire world of opportunity in front of you. The stresses of a part-time job and school seem like the most intense and terrifying aspect of your entire life; because it’s not just school, it’s everything else. Love lives, career choices, moves to different places near and far away; our minds are constantly churning out new ideas for our futures. Then once you decide on a place to live and a career, you focus on how to move to the top of the ladder and become all that you can be; after ll, that is what your college experience has prepped you for, right? Then you meet someone that you decide to settle down with. So now you’re balancing a career, marriage, and of course the idea that you still have a long life to live. Then as the song goes, first comes love, then comes marriage†¦then of course comes children. I’ve been told that children may quite possibly be the biggest blessing in one’s life; but then your days of dreaming for one are over. Your dreams and life changes have now become the life source for someone else who means more than your desire to cross items off of your bucket list.A divorce is one of those changes that affect many relationships. These other relationships may be more important than the relationship that you have with yourself. In my opinion, this should be the question everyone contemplating a divorce must ask themselves†¦does this decision affect anyone else? If so, will this decision improve the lives of everyone invo lved? It is hard to say if a divorce helps or hurts family. Each case is different and each case is full of reasons for a couple to stay or to leave. It is easy to listen to a best friend tell you how much you deserve better, or a mother saying that she wants more for you. However, in the end the choice is yours. It is human nature to gravitate towards people who make you happy. You would never befriend someone who gave you the cold shoulder and told you how much they disliked you. Just as someone going into a relationship never sets out to find someone who makes him or her unhappy. Even in the case of celebrities looking for love of their own, they never go out searching for disaster. Whether it is the fairy tale image, the feeling of needing someone in your life, or the initial feeling that you are perfect for each other, no one goes into a relationship hoping for failure. We are given one shot at life and are constantly told to go out and live passionately; live the life we’ ve always wanted! Why else would our role models tell us that we could have anything we want if we just pursue it? It is my honest belief that we go through life trying to find and hold onto the things that make us ridiculously happy. You could tell the divorcing couple who were once madly in love that you told them so, but it would not change the fact that at one time they were in love. They took a chance and believed that their love could withstand anything. The reality is that while this couple’s marriage failed does not mean that all will. Despite current statistics, the truth is that while one out of two marriages ends in divorce, one half of them work. One can be a cinicist, look at a statistic and look for failure. Or one can look at the statistic and hold onto the belief that they are the fortunate half. Divorce is tragic no matter how one looks at it, however no one can predict the future. If a couple is aware of themselves and their chances for success, their happine ss has no expiration date.Despite the statistics, the prior judgments, and the expectations of others, a marriage has every chance to defy odds and last forever. Stories like that are those that give this girl every reason to believe that I really can have my own fairy tale. Resources Berger, Kathleen Stassen. Invitation to the Life Span. The eNotes Blog Resumes The Struggle isReal

Resumes The Struggle isReal How is it that as students no one ever really teaches us to write resumes? There are so few opportunities to hone this skill as a young adult or adolescent. I know the only reason I’ve been able to practice this skill is because my dad has always been very pro-active about equipping me with the career-oriented skills needed to be successful. Now that I’m a college student living two states away, getting his advice has become a little more tricky, so naturally I turned to the only place I knew I could get reliable and up to date information quickly, the web. With so many websites and apps available to advise people on career oriented techniques and information, it took no time at all to identify what today’s evolving economy calls for in terms of resumes. The days of resumes with stiff, formal language and generic formatting are long gone. Future employers want to know you, not just your education and experience. Today’s resumes are all about showcasing your talents and skills and demonstrating why you’ll be advantageous to the company in question. Here are five tips on how best to market yourself through your resume 1. Use active language when describing your past experience or positions. Be as descriptive as possible. Were you a cashier at a local store? Talk about the experience you gained in customer service and human resources. Don’t simply say, â€Å"assisted customers by ringing them up.† So dull. Instead say, â€Å"formed close connections with regular customers, enriching their experience at the store and overall contributing to a strong company identity by emphasizing great customer service.† This language can help a future employer see that you gained legitimate experience through this position. 2. Emphasize your relevant coursework and your outside-of-the-classroom experience. This is something that is so frequently overlooked when creating a resume. As a college or high school student you are bound to have encountered class projects that demand real world career skills. My freshman year of college I took an entry level political science class that required the class to work on all aspects of an event and participate in all areas of citizenship. I went door-to-door with fliers, gathered signatures, worked in coalition with a local non-profit, advertised an event, and successfully executed a community service event with the help of my class. All of these skills are marketable and valuable. If you’ve ever had a class with this sort of real world application, use it to your advantage. Future employers will be impressed that you’ve taken advantage of the educational experiences you’ve had. 3. Customize, customize, customize! There’s nothing worse than submitting a catchall resume with nothing tailored to the position you’re applying for. Only include what is relevant to the job. Look at the job description or title and then look at your composite list of experiences and pick and choose what you think they’ll want to see. You may also choose to leave out certain pieces of a job summary in order to make it more relevant to the position. My suggestion is to make one giant resume with all of your work experience, education, extracurriculars, and skills and then pick and choose and copy/paste to formulate the perfect resume for the specific position. A great tool for this is the Levo Resume app, it streamlines the resume creation process in an aesthetically pleasing way. 4. Tell a story. Your resume should read like a narrative, i.e, I began here, got this experience, moved onto here, got that experience, etc. By the time the employer is done reading this they should be able to have a comprehensive view of you, and the direction you’re going. There’s really no trick to this, and it may seem pretty self explanatory, but by visualizing your resume as a story you may be able to have greater insight into the way you should physically format your information. Start with your most recent experience and work backwards. It should seem like a timeline on Facebook. You’re the main character and all of your experience is helping to develop you. A quick tip to jumpstart this, sit down and try to write two concise sentences that summarize your resume. Start with who you are, what experience you have, and the direction you wish to go. This will create a concise vision for you, and once you’ve worked to narrow down all you’ve done to two sentences , only the truly pertinent stuff will remain. 5.   Be concise. Try not to go over a page in length. This is tried and true when it comes to resumes. Recruiters and employers are frequently flooded with resumes and applications and would rather not be forced to flip the page. Great, you have a lot of experience, but do they really need to read about every last job you have had? The answer is no. As I’ve mentioned in some of the sections above, they really just want to see what is most applicable to the position they’re hiring for. I recognize that not everyone will have a lot of job experience in the specific field they’re looking for work in, but look for other ways to market yourself, perhaps through your skills and hobbies. Finally, do the 10 second scan test; do you have buzzwords for the position’s description? Does your expertise and experience give a concise perspective on what you can offer? This information should be so obvious on your resume that any person could get it in 10 seconds. Need more help with creating an eye-catching resume or cover letter? has you covered. The Entertainment Ride Regulation Act Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

The Entertainment Ride Regulation Act - Essay Example Section one defines the scope of the Act stating that its provisions are applicable to all the rides that are operated as part of an amusement or fairground park. The section goes further to define a ride in the context of the Act terming it as any equipment meant to ferry passengers for exhilaration or entertainment purposes. Section 2 of the Act introduces the Ride Safety Agency (RSA). The agency is charged with the responsibility of carrying out inspections issuing licenses and imposing sanctions in cases where the licensing conditions or regulations stated under the Act are breached. The RSA is empowered to administer penalties like issuing fines, demanding for repairs or improvements on the rides. It also has the powers to close down the rides or demolish the rides or sometimes revoke licenses2. In cases of moving rides, the provisions in the Act states that such forms of entertainment can be destroyed or confiscated in case they breach any of the RSA regulations. Section 3 come s up with a licensing regime which requires all the ride operators to lawfully obtain licenses before operating any rides. These licenses have to be obtained legally from the RSA. There have been previous cases which have made this act to be put in place. For example, on 20th November 2011, There was an accident in Australia involving a fair ride called the Cha Cha. A thirteen year old girl was thrown from the ride and flung into a safety fence which was metallic. She was again struck when she tried to stand. In the same accident, two other teenagers got minor cuts. The investigating company, WorkSafe Victoria, the ride did not meet the safety standards set aside by Australia. The section also expects the RSA to come up with a policy covering the issuing of licenses that has to be agreed upon after first consulting the relevant parties. The provisions mentioned above have already been enforced and the RSA has already assumed its responsibility of seeing that the provisions of the Ac t are followed to the latter. This has led to the RSA officers to lock horns with most of the rides users and owners who don’t necessarily understand provisions in the Entertainment Ride Regulations Act or are ignorant and assume the powers vested in the RSA. On the other hand, the RSA and its officers have taken advantage of the powers given to them and are harassing owners and users of rides3. This has called for the need to review the judicial application in order to bring to action the private law or find redress using other grievance resolution means. Such negligence leads to fatal accidents like the one seen in Dublin, Ireland. On October 24th 2011, a 31 year old woman was killed after going for a ride at the Tip Top ride. She was thrown from her bucket seat and fell on metal steps at the ride’s platform. It is reported that she died on the spot. Although the ride was found to be in great mechanical condition, it is believed that the woman slipped under the safet y bar and fell. Case 1 This involves an owner of a stall and the RSA officials. Alice who owns a ‘hook a duck’ stall is being accused by the RSA officials for operating her stall at a fair without a license. Following this breach of the Entertainment Ride Regulations Act provisions according to the officers, Alice is fined of 5000 pounds. With references to section 1 of the Act, Alice’s stall falls under the Acts definition of a ride thus it is under the jurisdiction of its provision making the RSA officers have the

Why can't pioneering innovative companies sustain their first mover Essay

Why can't pioneering innovative companies sustain their first mover advantages - Essay Example The breakthrough product for this Canadian company has remained to be the BlackBerry (Sweeny 2009). However, the arrival of iPhone in the market has overturned everything for Research in Motion leaving the company struggling to cope with the fast follower’s challenge. Rivals such as Google and Apple which performed well in the market have led to a downward performance in the company’s stock prices. Apple first launched iPhone, a device which took a dominant position in the market and more so in the consumer segment and is now taking leads in the corporate market where BlackBerry’s were dominant.... That is, the company has recorded ups and downs of 15% over the last 3 years when it comes to its share prices. This is because of the existence of stiff competitors in the market competing for the same market share with Research in Motion Ltd. The ups and downs in the share prices of Research in Motion Ltd may also be attributed to consumption of its market share by the competitors and especially in the consumer market. The introduction of new and improved products in the market by the competitors has made BlackBerry’s less competitive making RIM Ltd loose its significant number of consumers. Source: http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/BB:CN/chart When the BlackBerry’s become less competitive, the stocks also become less competitive a situation which has led to the reduction in stock prices. The increased competition and a reduction in market share have led to a reduction in the total volume of stocks traded in each trading day. Analysts also attributed the drop in stock pr ices in the company to the increased prices of the new BlackBerry mobile phones, a price which is too high for the emerging markets. With the increased prices, the company has been having huge problems attracting customers away from Androids by Google and iPhone platforms by Apple Inc.
